About

Artist Bio

Carolyn Dover is a Hamilton born artist who has lived in Grimsby the better part of 30 years.  Currently her studio is located at the Cotton Factory, Hamilton’s largest creative facility.  She studied at both McMaster University in Hamilton and Mount Allison University in New Brunswick where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with distinction in 1985.  She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Southern Ontario.

For many years she worked as an art instructor at the Dundas Valley School of Art and the Art Gallery of Burlington.  Her varied experiences are as juror, guest lecturer and conference workshop facilitator. Although she has tackled feminist issues in a variety of genres, like the human figure and symbolic still life works, Carolyn consistently returns to the landscape. Her process and work is very much a product of the Canadian landscape tradition.
Picture
"In my landscape paintings there exists a continuation as well as an evolution of my interests and working practice. I have been a painter en plein air for many years, which allows me to tap into an energy that does not exist in the studio. The sights, the smells, the wind and weather and changing light all combine to evoke excitement, emotion and passion."

-Carolyn Dover
